Pillagers are Hostile Mobs that were added in Update 1.9.

Spawning

Pillagers spawn in groups during Raids and at Pillager Outposts. They have the chance to spawn with an Illager Beast.

Behavior

Pillagers are armed with Crossbows and attack by shooting Arrows at nearby Players, Iron Golems and Villagers.

Like Skeletons, the player is able to get pillagers to shoot other mobs. This can lead to pillagers battling neutral/hostile mobs due to an arrow hitting the wrong target, though pillagers will never attack each other.

Pillagers can ride Illager Beasts. Pillagers will attempt to specifically target Villagers in a raid while they will run away from them and will change targets if an entity hits them within their firing range.

Combat

Pillagers can easily be defeated using a high-tier Sword or a Bow/Crossbow.

Trivia

• Pillagers have a very similar appearance to Vindicators and Evokers.
• If the player defeats a Pillager wearing a Banner on its head while at a Pillager Outpost, the player will be inflicted with the Bad Omen Status effect.
• Pillagers will switch to melee attack when fully submerged underwater.
• Pillagers don't attack when they don't have any weapons.
