A Sponge is a Decorative Block introduced in Update 0.8.0 that is available in Creative Mode and by going to Ocean Monuments.

Uses

In Update 0.16.0, Sponges got the ability to soak up Water. Doing so will turn the Sponge into a "Wet Sponge".

Obtaining

The Player must go to an Ocean Monument and find a Wet Sponge. Next, the Player must smelt the Wet Sponge in a Furnace, which will then result in a Sponge. Another way is when the Player kills an Elder Guardian.

Trivia

• The Sponge texture was changed in Update 0.16.0.
• Only 3 Elder Guardians spawn per Ocean Monument. Thus, this does not make Sponges renewable.
