Update 0.1.0 |
Sand is a naturally spawning Block that was added in Update 0.1.0.
Types
There are two types of Sand in Minecraft:
- Sand
- Red Sand
Both of these can be Crafted into respective types of Sandstone.
Obtaining
Sand can be found in Desert Biomes.
Crafting
- 4 Sand => 1 Sandstone
- 4 Sand + 5 Gunpowder => 1 TNT
- 4 Sand + 4 Gravel => 8 Concrete Powder
Smelting
Usage
Sand can be used for farming Sugarcane and Cacti. Note that the Cactus block can only be placed on Sand. Dead Bushes can also spawn on Sand. Sand obeys Gravity, meaning that it will fall if there is no block beneath it. However, it will not fall at world generation; it will only fall after a block state next to it is toggled.
Trivia
- The texture for Sand is also the texture used for the hotbar.
- Sand did not obey Gravity before Update 0.6.0.
- If pushed upwards by a Piston, Sand breaks when the Piston retracts.
- As Sand is falling, as it is an entity, it can be Fished towards the Player. This is also true for Gravel and Concrete Powder.
- Placing a Torch on the block below falling Sand will break the Sand, allowing for the Sand to be picked up instead of mined.
