Update 0.11.0

Rotten Flesh is a Food Item that was added in Update 0.11.0.

Rotten Flesh can be dropped by Zombies, Baby Zombies, Zombie Pigmen, Baby Zombie Pigmen, the Husk, Baby Husk, Zombie Villagers, and Baby Zombie VIllagers upon death. They can also be obtained by fishing as "junk" items and be found in Igloo chests, Desert Temple chests, Jungle Temple chests and Dungeon chests.

There is a 4/5 (80%) chance that the Player will receive a Hunger Status Effect when they eat Rotten Flesh, and their Hunger will slowly degenerate. Rotten Flesh can be used to breed and heal tamed Wolves without them getting Hunger. After Update 1.0.4, it can also be Traded for Emeralds.

  • In Update 0.11.0, when eaten by the Player, it would inflict the Poison status effect, but it was changed to hunger in Update 0.12.1.
  • Before Rotten Flesh was added, Zombies would drop Feathers instead.
  • If the Player has 0 Hunger Bars and eats Rotten Flesh, the Player will get an Achievement called "Iron Belly".
  • Even though the Player might get Hunger, it does serve as a useful Food when starting a world afresh, and other Food is not easily available.
  • Rotten Flesh is one of the five foods in Minecraft that can poison the Player, the others being Spider Eyes, Pufferfish, Poisonous Potatoes, and Raw Chicken.
