A Redstone Repeater is a Redstone-related Block that was added in Update 0.14.0. It is used in Redstone circuits.

Crafting

Usage

Since Redstone signals decay when travelling, a Redstone Repeater repeats this signal up to full strength, allowing for a new 15 Block travel distance. By tapping the Redstone Repeater the delay of the Signal can change from 1 tick (0.1 s) up through 4 ticks (0.4 s). By connecting more repeaters, greater delays can be created.

Repeaters can also detect if the block connected to the Repeater is powered or activated. If so, the Repeater will send a full strength signal onward. Repeaters also lock the direction of the signal, as a diode, as signals can not go backwards through a Repeater.

Locking

A powered or non-powered Repeater can be locked in its current state if another powered Redstone Repeater is facing into the first Repeater.

Trivia

  • Redstone Repeaters are often used with Note Blocks to make songs of greater lengths.
  • A large number of Redstone Items were added in Update 0.13.0. However, Repeaters were not added until Update 0.14.0 in Redstone's Phase II.
  • While Redstone wire picks up power from the Block beneath, the Redstone Repeater does not do this. This allows for smaller circuits in some cases.
  • Redstone Repeaters can also be placed parallel to another Redstone Repeater (or Redstone wire) without being connected as two parallel Redstone wire would do.
  • They are often confused with the Redstone Comparator.
  • Repeaters can create temporary Airlocks if placed underwater.
