Farmland is a Block on which Seeds can be planted and grown. It is produced by tilling a Grass, Pressed Dirt, or Dirt block with a Hoe

Hydration

Farmland turns hydrated when it is placed within a 4 block range of a Water source. However, if not hydrated, it will turn back into normal dirt.

Crops can be grown on hydrated farmland, and if it becomes dehydrated, the crop will break.

Farming

Farmland is required to grow the six crops currently in the game: Wheat, Melon, Pumpkin, Potato, Carrot, and Beetroot. Melon and Pumpkin blocks don't need to be on farmland. However, their seeds do.

Trivia

  • If the Player or a Mob jumps onto a farmland block, the block turns into dirt and any crop growing on it will be harvested.
  • In 0.9.0, going further than 20,000 blocks in any direction would cause all blocks to turn into farmland with growing Wheat Seeds. This was fixed in Update 0.9.4.
  • When farmland is hydrated, the top part of the block will be darker in color.
  • Flowers can be planted on top of farmland.
  • Farmland can be naturally found in Villages.
