Update 0.9.0

Emerald Ore was added in the Update 0.9.0. It is one of the eight Ores to be added to the game after Coal Ore, Iron Ore, Gold Ore, Redstone OreLapis Lazuli Ore, Diamond Ore, and Nether Quartz Ore.

Obtaining

Emerald Ore is mined using a Iron Pickaxe or a Diamond Pickaxe, and when mined it drops a single Emerald. They are only available within the Extreme Hills Biome.

Smelting

Note: Emerald Ore can only be smelted if obtained with Silk Touch. In normal circumstances, Emerald Ore drops emeralds when mined.

  • 1 Emerald Ore + Any Fuel => 1 Emerald

Trivia

  • Emerald Ore is one of the rarest ores, typically found in Veins of one, but sometimes as high as two or three.
  • Emerald Ore serves no purpose as Trading is not yet available; however, the Emeralds obtained from them can be Crafted into a decorational Emerald Block.
  • The texture of Emerald Ore is one of the three ores that do not follow the basic format, the others being Lapis Lazuli Ore and Nether Quartz Ore.
  • Emerald Ore was added in the earlier versions of MCPE, but was removed because it had no use at the time.
  • It can be difficult to find Emerald Ore in certain Old Worlds as Extreme Hill Biomes may not generate in them.
  • Bug: There was a bug in Update 0.11.0 and Update 0.12.1 where Stone Pickaxes could mine Emerald Ore, but this has been since removed.
  • Emerald Ore was supposed to be Ruby Ore, but was changed after Dinnerbone's red/green color-blindness.
