Coal Ore is an Ore block that can be mined using a Pickaxe. When mined, it drops Coal.

Spawn

Coal Ore generates in Mineral Veins on both the surface and underground, and can be found in amounts of 5-30 blocks.

Trivia

• Coal Ore is the only ore besides Iron Ore that can spawn above sea level without being restricted to a particular biome, since Gold Ore, another ore able to do so, can spawn above sea level only in Mesa Biomes.
• Coal is one of the oldest ores in any version of Minecraft.
• Coal is the most common ore.
• Coal Ore drops the resource immediately, like Diamond, Lapis Lazuli, Redstone, and Emerald Ore.
• Coal Ore can never drop Charcoal.
• Coal Ore as a Block is obtainable via the Silk Touch Enchantment.
  • Its drops are also increased when a Fortune Enchanted Pickaxe is used on it.
• Coal Ore, when mined, drops Experience Orbs.
