Coal Ore is a Block that was added in Update 0.1.0.
Obtaining
Coal Ore generates in Mineral Veins on both the surface and underground, and can be found in amounts of 5-30 blocks. It can be mined using a Pickaxe of any tier.
However, the Block itself can only be obtained by using a Pickaxe Enchanted with Silk Touch.
Smelting
Note: Coal Ore can only be smelted if obtained through Silk Touch. In normal circumstances, Coal Ore drops Coal when mined.
Usage
When mined, Coal Ore drops 1 Coal. The amount can be increased by using a Pickaxe enchanted with Fortune.
Trivia
- Even though Coal Ore was added in Update 0.1.0, it didn't drop Coal until Update 0.3.0.
- Coal is one of the oldest ores in any version of Minecraft.
- Coal is the most common ore.
- Coal Ore drops the resource immediately, like Diamond, Lapis Lazuli, Redstone, and Emerald Ore.
- Coal Ore can never drop Charcoal.
- Coal Ore, when mined, drops Experience Orbs.
