First Appearance

Update 0.2.1

Bookshelves are Blocks that were added in Update 0.2.1.

Obtaining[]

Bookshelves can be Crafted or naturally found in Libraries, some Strongholds, and Villages. As of Update 1.0.4, Bookshelves can also be Traded for using Emeralds.

Crafting[]

Note: The type of Wooden Planks used has no effect on crafting. All types of planks work and all Bookshelves look the same.

Usage[]

Bookshelves are used to increase level of Enchantments when surrounding an Enchantment Table. They are also used as Decorations.

Trivia[]

  • 15 Bookshelves are required in order to receive the highest Enchantments.
  • When Enchanting, if Bookshelves are blocked by a Torch, this will change the Enchantment outputs, since Torches occupy the space of a full Block.
  • When destroyed, the Bookshelf returns only the Books, losing the Wooden Planks used to make it.
    • However, before Update 0.3.0, destroying one Bookshelf would yield three new Bookshelves instead of three Books.
  • To get the Block itself, the Player must use Silk Touch Enchanted Tools.
  • When used to enhance an Enchantment Table, letters appear to be drawn from the Bookshelves and into the Enchantment Table.
  • The texture of the top and bottom of the Bookshelf Block is the same as that of Oak Planks.
  • Bookshelves can be used as Fuel in a Furnace.
