Bamboo is a Block added in Update 1.8. Just like Sugarcane and Cactus, if a Bamboo block is destroyed, any other Bamboo placed above it will also be destroyed.

Obtaining[]

There are currently 4 ways to obtain Bamboo.

  • Bamboo can be found growing naturally in a Jungle Biomes
  • Bamboo can be found while Fishing in jungle biomes as a junk item.
  • Bamboo can be found in 50.9% of jungle temple chests in stacks of 1–3.
  • Pandas will drop 0–2 Bamboo when killed.

Farming[]

Bamboo can be placed and will grow on Grass, Dirt, Sand, Mycelium, Podzol, Coarse Dirt or Red Sand. When Bone Meal is used on it, it will grow 1–2 blocks taller. Bamboo can grow to a maximum of 12–16 blocks tall.

Bamboo blocks drop themselves as an item if a piston tries to push them or moves a block into their space.

  • Bamboo generates much more frequently in the bamboo variants of jungles, covering large swaths of the landscape.
  • Bamboo can be used as fuel in furnaces and will smelt 0.25 items.
  • Bamboo can be planted inside Flower Pots, just like Flowers, although it retains the design it has in its item form.
  • The appearance of bamboo changes as it grows.
  • Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in Minecraft. Each plant grows one block higher approximately every 204.8 seconds.
  • Bamboo can be used to breed Pandas.
  • Dropping bamboo will  attract Pandas and they will pick up the bamboo and eat it.
